Madonna del Rosario del Duomo

San Leo Cathedral, San Leo, Italy

There is no indication that this work was ever paired with a saint receiving the rosary that Mary is handing over, so most likely the intention was that she was offering the rosary symbolically to the observer.

The use of crowns on the figures seems to have come into favor in the Baroque period and gone out again in the 19th.
